Fly fishing the Maldives - December 2013 client report

A great report from one of the new resorts we are using for fly fishing in the Maldives. Calum and his family have visited the Maldives twice in 2013 and his latest trip in December 2013 sounded great.

Hi Mat

Apologies, meant to do this before the Xmas rush. Hope you had a great Christmas and Happy New Year.

We had a great holiday and I had some good fishing. I took the guide for four days as easy access to the various spots. Had a couple of bonefish on the first day, with a cast to a big GT and some permit but no luck - all on the sand bank. The next few days was a tough as building to a full moon but had some Bluefin and queenfish chasing baitfish on the sandbank. Caught a few small permit and one or two other species including small GT. The day after the full moon was great fishing as had some good Bluefin wading the reef, as well as grouper, snapper and triggers. Cast to a few big permit with the usual frustrating result. Also, cast to a very big GT who followed and slashed at the fly. The big one still eludes me.

Overall, maybe had 10 species on the fly and a very enjoyable trip. Family enjoyed it and would definitely go back. Apologies for messing around with accommodation but the upgrade was necessary in the end, -   hope you got the benefit.

I have attached a few pics.

speak soon.
Calum
