Fly fishing New Zealand : Client feedback

A great effort from Dorian on his second trip to New Zealand. The trout fishing in New Zealand is unique and takes a few trips to get your head around the demands of sight fishing to large wild brown trout. The lessons learnt on his first trip were invaluable and he put them to good use and landed some cracking fish over the last couple of weeks.

 Hi Mat,

Hope you back safely and you and the fam doing ok.

How did you get on in Mackenzie country?

Had a good three days in Southland with Stu after seeing you. Managed a nice Oreti fish in tough conditions. Have attached pics of that fish and the one I caught with Steve which I will never forget!

Thanks again for arranging the trip. Steve and Stu were fantastic, accomodation ideal, we couldn't ask for more.

Will be in touch about next year in due course.

Dorian

Giant trevally in Tahiti

In between our bonefishing we managed to have some great GT fishing. Nick Reaygeart of Gin Clear Media was out with us filming a section for his next film and managed some fantastic footage. Keep an eye out for it. Giant trevally were found cruising the dropoff's, up on the flats and on the backs of the numerous rays swimming around the island. Some huge fish were encountered with one fish well over 1m long encountered on the shallow flats. Along with the Giant trevally there were numerous other trevally species including bluefin, stripped and diamond trevally on the flats.

Some images from the trip below and will post some more in the next few days.

Tahiti Bonefish Project

We have just returned from 8 days fly fishing in Tahiti having implemented the first phase of our Bonefish research project in  conjunction with the Tetiaroa Society. We had some amazing fly fishing to big bonefish with 4 fish weighed and measured over the magical 10lb mark. A large number of fish between the 7-10lb range were also tagged and released. The Field Magazine writer Toby Coe joined us and managed a 5kg fish. Paul Procter also landed his first double figure bonefish along with some fine giant trevally. You can read about it on his blog along with the 2013 New Zealand adventure where we are currently fishing to large wild brown trout.

We will be continuing the tag and release project in 2013 before starting the acoustic tagging in 2014.
