Max's report of the fishing is below....
Our group arrived at the Alta airport and we were greeted by the Oldero Manager Ingo and the Head Guide Karl. On our way to the Lakselv we crossed the mighty river Alta and immediately your mind start's to wonder and play with you, so many big fish story’s!! Game on! – we arrived at the Oldero lodge late afternoon and we settled in. The Oldero Lodge is located in the lower part of the Lakselv river on a private island, just 5 minutes walk away from the Home Pool. Some of us went out fishing after dinner that evening and only few cast in we had some Grilse landed (all C&R). The condition of the river level was low but we made the best of it, most of the action was seen after the tides – with Home pool always showing fresh fish coming in the river system. It was also the pool that most of the fish were hooked and lost! Fishing in the night time were condition seems to be better, fish will start to show in the pools as the light was fading and then again in the early hours on sunrise – spending the night by the Lakselv river is a truly an amazing experience. We had 18 fish for the week to 4 rods, could have been more but quite few fell off from the hook, one really big fish lost by Jonathan at the net in Home Pool estimate 15/18KG. The biggest of the week was 30lb and Jonathan personal best, few more fish in the high 25lb were landed. I did hook a fish in the 6to6 Pool or Swimming Pool (named after lots of people fell in the river) at around 4:15am when the day break; this fish run me for the next beat and a half downstream! I could not hold this fish, played for about 30 minutes when he finally turned in a deep pool and I saw it twice – this fish was over 40lb. The hook come undone from his mouth when he went deep in the pool, not sure why….! One fight that I will always remember. For the size of the river Lakselv can and does produce fish of life time and personal best, is not uncommon to hook fish of 30lb+ and sometimes even more. The Staff at Oldero Lodge are really professional at their job. They make you feel welcome and they can’t do enough for you. The one thing we all looked forward during days fishing was the meals back the Lodge; Mummi our Icelandic private Chef was truly an amazing talented Chef. The food every lunch and dinner was stunningly cooked and presented, no one left the table feeling hungry! We certainly put on a few pounds during our stay but it was well worth it! I will be back next year.
