Hi Mat,
Yes we had a good holiday thanks, Pristava Lepena is a lovely place and the rivers and mountains were stunning. I only fished about 2 and a half days in the end as I didn't want to abandon Emma, but had plenty of fish in that time - over a dozen rainbows to 52cm, a dozen or so grayling to at least 2lbs on the Soca AND yes 3 marble trout which were really stunning fish. The biggest marble I managed was 21.5" from a deep pool on the Lepena, out on my own on the first day. Bit of a fluke as I didn't see it, didn't even see it take (often the way it seems with these fish, they are so well camouflaged). It took a size 20 black F-fly - lots of midges were hatching, so small black flies were often best, also Flying Ant, Black Gnat, Griffith's Gnat and small black klinks also worked. One of the best nymphs was a large San Juan worm strangely - Rok reckons they take it for a large midge larva. Rok was an excellent guide and also great company. His ability to spot fish was amazing, and he picked the right spot and fly time and again (often important with these picky fish, as fishing pressure is high).
We enjoyed Pristava Lepena, the food was excellent and the chalet very cosy. Milan, Sylvia and Mya were great hosts and put on some extra activities in the evening including a star-gazing session with an astronomer, and even a concert with c. 30 very talented young musicians from a nearby orchestra camp. Emma enjoyed riding the Lipizanners which were beautiful and very smooth horses. The riding was however limited to two 1.5 hour routes - unfortunately they are not allowed in the Triglav National Park for the longer rides any more.
I've attached a few photos of the biggest marble trout. Will send a few more with a second email. Thanks for organising a fun and relaxing holiday
!
